Seller guide
How to pack beauty safely
A little care goes a long way. Get this right and your parcel arrives intact, your buyer's happy, and your funds release without a hitch.
The basics — every parcel
- Use a box if the item is fragile (glass bottles, palettes, compacts). Padded mailers are fine for soft plastics and tubes.
- Tape the lid of anything with a pump, screw cap or flip-top — transit pressure loosens them.
- Wrap each item individually in bubble wrap or kraft paper. Aim for at least 2 cm of cushioning on every side.
- Seal the outer box with strong packing tape, not Sellotape.
- Include a small note with the order — it's a nice touch that lifts reviews.
Perfume & aftershave
Perfumes are classed as "flammable liquids" by UK transport rules. Only Royal Mail can legally carry them. We apply the required ID8000 declaration to your shipping label automatically.
- Keep the perfume in its original retail box if you can — it counts as the first layer of protection.
- Maximum 150 ml per bottle, 4 bottles per parcel. Larger sizes can't be shipped under the standard declaration.
- Wrap the box in a layer of bubble wrap, then place in a sturdy outer box with cushioning on every side.
- Never use a padded mailer for glass bottles — if the envelope gets crushed in sorting, the bottle breaks.
Aerosols (deodorant, dry shampoo, hairspray)
Pressurised cans are restricted goods. Same rules as perfume: Royal Mail only, ID8000 declaration applied by us.
- Maximum 500 ml per can, 2 cans per parcel. Must be for personal toiletry or medicinal use (no industrial sprays).
- Make sure the cap is fitted. If the original cap is missing, tape over the nozzle to prevent accidental discharge.
- Double-check the can isn't damaged or dented — carriers refuse compromised pressurised containers.
Nail polish & remover
Nail polishes are flammable liquids. Royal Mail only.
- Maximum 30 ml per bottle, 4 bottles per parcel.
- Cushion heavily — nail polish glass is thin and cracks easily.
- Tape the cap shut with a single strip of tape. The caps loosen with altitude changes during transit.
If something goes wrong in transit
Our integrated labels come with basic carrier insurance. If your parcel is damaged or lost, what happens next depends on why:
- Carrier damage (box crushed, parcel delayed, lost in network) — we handle the claim with the carrier and refund the buyer. You keep your proceeds once the case is resolved.
- Packaging failure (cap came off, no cushioning, fragile item in a thin mailer) — the seller is usually responsible. Good packing protects your earnings.
Having a photo of the packed parcel before you drop it off helps enormously if a claim needs raising.
